URGENT GOAz ALERT - CRUCIAL GUN CONTROL VOTE THURSDAY

“I have to see first what amendments are going to be allowed, but filibuster just for the sake of trying to block it from a floor vote, I’m not there,” said Sen. Jeff Flake. Washington Post, Tuesday, April 9, 2013 Senator McCain has said he will not help with the filibuster, in fact, he has indicated that he will vote for cloture because he believes the bill should go to the floor for a vote. You may remember in 2001 Senator McCain and Senator Lieberman sponsored a bill that would have required background checks on private, person-to-person sales at gun shows.
URGENT GOAz ALERT - CRUCIAL GUN CONTROL VOTE THURSDAY

Shredding our Bill of Rights

HOT OFF THE PRESSES

Numerous news sources are reporting that S. 649, Senator Reid’s bill that will further restrict our right to bear and keep arms will go to the floor on Thursday. If Senator Reid does not get the sixty (60) votes needed to break the ‘Gang of 14’ filibuster, we win - For now.

However, if Reid gets the 60 votes, the debate on the bill will begin and we could end up with a ban on semiautomatic rifles with certain cosmetic features and magazine that can hold more than ten (10) cartridges, ‘universal’ background checks (every firearm transfer must go through a FFL, even to your children) and a ‘straw purchase’ bill that could make any of us subject to a serious felony as written.

Then I read the following in the Washington Post this afternoon:  “I have to see first what amendments are going to be allowed, but filibuster just for the sake of trying to block it from a floor vote, I’m not there,” said Sen. Jeff Flake.

Senator McCain has said he will not help with the filibuster, in fact, he has indicated that he will vote for cloture because he believes the bill should go to the floor for a vote. You may remember in 2001 Senator McCain and Senator Lieberman sponsored a bill that would have required background checks on private, person-to-person sales at gun shows.

Here is what we need you to do.

If you have not sent Senator Flake a message yet, please do. If you would rather call his office, please, call him. This is important.

If President Obama, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Sarah Brady succeed on Thursday, similar legislation will end up in virtually every State. The ink has already dried on bills placing further restrictions on law abiding individuals in Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland and New York. DO NOT LET A BRUSH FIRE OF GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION SWEEP THROUGH AMERICA!

SAMPLE MESSAGE:

The Honorable Jeff Flake,

Gun Owners of Arizona has informed me that you were quoted in the Washington Post as saying, I have to see first what amendments are going to be allowed, but filibuster just for the sake of trying to block it from a floor vote, I’m not there.”

S. 649, Senator Reid’s sweeping gun control bill is unacceptable even with amendments and allowing it to come to the floor is too risky. After all, these are OUR rights!

You received ‘A’ ratings from both the National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America. Surely you cannot support S. 649!

DO NOT VOTE YEA ON CLOTURE and I strongly encourage you to join the ‘Gang of 14’ in their filibuster, making it the ‘Gang of 15.’

Respectfully submitted,
