Arizona Senators McCain & Flake sell out gun owners

On Thursday, April 11th, both Senators McCain and Flake voted with fourteen (14) other Republicans to move Senator Reid's gun control bill forward to the floor of the Senate. After the debate and vote on the Manchin-Toomey Amendment, they will take up a ban on Personal Defense Weapons like the AR-15 and a ban on magazines with a capacity greater than ten (10) cartridges. It will then turn to an 'Amendment Free for All'.

Dear Firearms enthusiast:

As you may know, Senator McCain and Senator Flake voted in favor of the Motion to Proceed with debate, amendments and a final vote on S. 649, Senator Harry Reid's misnamed 'People Control' bill, the Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013.

This was a crucial vote. Besides Senators McCain and Flake, fourteen other Republicans voted to proceed with the bill.

These sixteen (16) Republicans not only allowed the bill to move to the Senate floor, they opened up the flood gates for amendments that will damage for decades to come the right of YOU to bear, keep, sell, purchase and trade firearms in your personal capacity.

PLEASE READ ON.

The Reid bill, S. 649, is a broad overreach and in direct conflict with the Tenth Amendment to the Federal Constitution.

It is important that you let both Senator McCain and Senator Flake know that you will hold them personally accountable for any bill that passes the Senate and goes to the House that contains any further restrictions on the right of individuals to keep, bear, purchase, sell or trade a firearm.

SAMPLE MESSAGE TO SENATOR McCAIN AND SENATOR FLAKE:

Dear Senator _________:

I am extremely disappointed that you voted to proceed with S. 649, Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013.

I will be brief, should this bill pass with any restrictions on my right to bear, keep, sell, purchase or trade a firearm, I will blame you for ANY gun legislation that ultimately passes Congress that allows for any further restrictions of my right to bear, keep, purchase, sell or trade a firearm.

The right to bear and keep arms belongs to me, it is non-negotiable and you have neither the Power nor the authority to sell it to the highest bidder.

Sincerely,

Name, Address, etc.

PLEASE READ ON.

Gun Owners of Arizona has read and analyzed the Manchin-Toomey amendment that will be the first amendment considered by the full Senate. The debate will likely begin on this Amendment tomorrow.

The next Amendment that the full Senate will consider will be the ban on Personal Defense Weapons like the AR-15 and a ban on magazines that can hold more than ten (10) cartridges.

According to remarks Senator Reid made last Thursday after the crucial vote on the Motion to Proceed, it will then become an Amendment 'Free for All'. At that point a Senator can introduce any amendment they wish.

This could turn out to be a nightmare for firearm owners.

The Maryland State Legislature passed their 'People Control' bill and it contained a requirement for everyone who wishes to purchase or own a firearm and ammunition to take required classroom and range instruction, pass a background check and provide their fingerprints before the State will issue the card. The card will be similar to a drivers license and nobody will be allowed to purchase a firearm or ammo without it.

The Maryland law is exactly what the firearm prohibitionists have told us they did not want: the REGISTERATION FIREARMS AND FIREARM OWNERS!

I encourage you to write and call both Senator McCain and Flake. Let their staff know that you do not support the passage of S. 649 whether it is amended or not.

It will only turn out poorly for those of us who own firearms.

The Manchin-Toomey amendment will require every private, person-to-person transfer that takes place at a gun show to go through a FFL.

The Democrats refused to compromise on this issue and allow for an online portal for the seller to check before they sold a firearm to someone they were unfamiliar with. Why?

Also, do not listen to media reports that this Amendment prevents the ATF from seizing 4473's. It does prohibit the seizure but the bill says NOTHING about copying them which is what the ATF has been doing during some FFL audits.

The Amendment also establishes a Commission to study mass violence. This is a no-holds barred commission that will open the door for the Police Chiefs Associations, operatives from the Violence Policy Center and Mayors Against Illegal Guns and other firearm prohibitionists to have far greater input to what the next step in 'People Control' will be. They will make the recommendation for the next Congressional law!

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE STOP S. 649 FROM MOVING FORWARD.

Please call both Senator McCain and Flake as soon as possible.

Senator McCain: (202) 224.2235

Senator Flake: (202) 224-4521

It is also important that you send both Senators an email using their webmail system. Here are the url's:

There is a Latin phrase that I believe is appropriate and of some use: Principio Obstate; or, Resist from the Beginning.

In 1934 all the firearm prohibitionists wanted was to ban automatics and short-barreled rifles.

In 1968 all the firearm prohibitionists wanted was the Gun Control Act of 1968 which was a massive rights-control bill placing many restrictions on the importation of firearms as well as allowing Federal expansion in to what once was to the discretion of the States; thereby, further centralizing firearm laws.

In 1992, all the firearm prohibitionists wanted was the Brady Act.

In 1994 all the firearm prohibitionists want was to ban Personal Defense Weapons such as the AR-15 and magazines that can hold more than ten (10) cartridges.

Today all the firearm prohibitionists want is to ban Personal Defense Weapons such as the AR-15, the magazine ban, background checks on ALL transfers (but they are willing to settle, at least for now, on gun shows and online sales), severe penalties for trafficking or making an alleged straw purchase and to extend the NICS Improvement Act to all those adjudicated as mentally ill, without any agreeable definition as to what that really means by a Board or Commission.

STOP THE FIREARM PROHIBITIONISTS FROM FURTHER RESTRICTING LAW ABIDING FIREARM OWNERS. CALL SENATOR McCAIN AND SENATOR FLAKE TODAY OR AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

Thank you for your consideration.

In liberty,
